JAI TELANGANA. Is it a Movement? a Revolution? a Process? a Mission? a Thought? a Desire? a Goal? a Requirement? or a Call to people?
It sounds like a movement. Many of the localites say that it is a call to demerge the Unification process of Telangana with Andhra Pradesh. The reason seems to be the violation of agreed policies of sharing resources among both the regions. Most of the times, the crucial ministerial posts of the Legislature and official posts in other departments and organisations were dominated by the Andhra and Seema leaders and officers. This is due to their better educational and financial background. No major official posts in the hands of Telangana people undermined the Telangana people's voice since decades. There were many major revolutions since the first decade of the formation of the Andhra Pradesh state. They are purely democratic, as they learnt it from the deadly Razzacars movement.
In this modern complex world, there are many things that have to be considered before making a move. That is how everything happens in and around. The processes gets complicated, as to fill up loop holes. The procedure should be well organised. It should not be just a provoked revolution. Such revolutions will make the people more emotional, leading to hasty decisions. The thought of Telangana has changed in all the minds - leaders, followers, opponents.
Early movement was started to satisfy the basic needs of the people, as they starved for decades. In this decade, starvation rate has declined and basic necessities are available to majority of the population when compared with 1970s. Now the Telangana has become selfie and movement a violent exploitative desire. The thought process has changed. Many new leaders have come up, with a motive to exploit the resources. People started to find the ways only to project the reasons for their anger and emotion. Recent revolutions started a decade long and most of the credit is bagged by TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samiti) political party.

A rethink is required, not about claiming for separate state, but about the result of its formation. Have you ever thought about these disruptions while starting the revolution? Since 4 years state's GDP has gone down. No new establishments and investments could be seen apart of Central Government programmes. Fall in private company investments. Fall in growth of public sector educational institutions. Chaos in town planning. All such paved way to encourage unorganized public transport, unorganised infrastructural investments, unorganised retail market expansion, money laundering, leading to dimensionless progress in attitude. Being a Telanganite, if my thoughts and understandings are improper, then who is benefited and what have we learnt from this movement.
Gandhiji said, "Means should justify the Ends". It means, not only reaching the goal, but we have to justify the way you have achieved the goal. "An eye to eye, makes the world blind". If Seemandhra has exploited Telangana, and if Telanagana follows the same way, there wont be any change in the result. Gandhi has explained this for Indianising India, as he sees India has become British India. British India is not just, India ruled by British, but the thought of Indians has nothing different from Capitalist British.

66 years after Independence, we still depend on their language, culture, education, thought, etc. where have we got liberalised? We still use only English as our common language, we use the machines of Western made, we dress ourselves look like a non-Indian, we think of only western education, western lifestyle. True freedom lies in ourselves. We have to start thinking about ourselves first. Change has to begin from within. Indianisation begins from the culture evolved in India since ages. Indian culture is termed as Hindu culture by Invaders. Basically it is the life of humanity. (Lets talk about this in next page).
Recent revolutions have started a decade long and most of the credit is bagged by TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samiti) political party. Its main motto seems only to bifurcate the state. Rather it should look at the progress of Telangana people by providing them water resources, self help groups, sustainable agricultural methods, well established educational institutions, disease driven environment, etc. But they know that, if problems persist among people, it is easy to show them the cause is the ruler of the state, obviously a Seemandhrite. This exploitative nature is not a true Telangana movement.
Telangana is not a political will, but the people's will. People should take decision only when they are aware of themselves. Only when they are able to think about themselves. Only when they are not easily provoked by others. Only when they give value to society than their anger. As an example, emotional hasty decisions are seen in the Middle east, in the modern world. I wish Telangana shall become a True Peaceful Logical Unbiased Unemotional Intelligent Democratic Socialized movement.
JAI TELANGANA.
I have an idealist solution for such problems. A large state could have been disintegrated immediately and policies could have been framed based on the smaller regions of a size of a district, to address their regional issues considering the local prospects. Then it would be easy to address many of the regional problems with microscopic view and we could expect equitable growth throughout.
ReplyDeleteThis is again a Gandhian Decentralisation thought. Such idealistic thoughts obviously remain not even on papers, as no one wish to see prosperity and equal growth. The fact is, people wants to be ahead of the wealth race, pushing others behind them.
I personally felt your document remained indecisive and found that you are sitting on fence like how usually our policy makers do........
ReplyDeleteAt the start, let me answer the question on telangana.
First things first, Primarily i would like to question the basic premise on which your whole arguments rested. For instance, you say that lack of development and other existing institutional lacunae is because of lack of political will and telangana is not a political will but people's will. I would like to state people's will can be there only when they are better informed, which requires strong political will. This political will has been there but, it is only lop-sided one. When we able to correct deficiencies and unsymmetrical political institutions it automatically finds congruence to people's will as you say.
I my self, A mild advocate for telangana truly felt this is not the right way in achieving it, either it be a state or in the form in which it is attained. Take a brief look at telangana shows that it is a stupendous multi-layered,entrenched with historical, natural and cultural resources. But these resources were left in lurch and moreover these were exploited by some "so called" greedy politicians and industrialists(These just constitute for only some 3% of entire seemandhra population). The autonomy for telangana is a genuine and may be that cannot be only in the form of separate statehood.
Regarding the means for our ends, you pointed out that procedure should be well organized one and it should not be a provoked revolution. Here, i would like to contradict your hypothesis, a true revolution can't be a well organized one.Let me remind you telangana movement of 1969 is the world's biggest social movement(not a revolution) which doesn't have a leader and this movement is not a violent one. This movement has been ruthlessly crushed and it had as many as 109 casualties in police firing. Hitherto, we had peaceful movement but what have we achieved?? I would give you the answer.....telangana region has been the place where there were we have highest farm suicide rate, highest number of illiterates(in % wise of population) and many more like these fancy things.....You say it should not be a provoked one.But who provoked it???It's not the politicians or the industrialists belonged to either of these regions. It is provoked by their state of helplessness and rigid state of poverty and their miseries. These were resulted because the concentration was only on some pockets of state like (Hyderabad,Vijayawada, Rangareddy and vizag districts). .French people celebrate "the great fall of bastille prison" as a mark of freedom, liberty and equality which we too have embraced is a revolution and a true one. If french can achieve it why not we??But may be it just in need not in the form of separate statehood it could be with granting special status and creating autonomous region of telangana inside andhra pradesh synonymous with hyderabad-karnataka region in karnataka.
Second one is regarding indianization........
What's wrong in using english as a link language among indians. Do u expect some sanskrit or hindi to take the place of english. I would say no, Not only by me but crores of dravidians, bengalis, marathis and thousands of indigenous tribal groups of our country.Embracing western lifestyle, customs and Moore doesn't make me anti - indian nor pro-western.In the extant world it would be very difficult for us to remain isolated and create a self-sufficient towns (as gandhi has envisaged) for our survival. So i would want remain as an indian and at the same time to embrace westernization. In simpler terms, i want to be a true glocalized citizen of this great indian nation
Firstly cheers to your comments.
DeleteI am no one to decide on whether Telangana gets formed or not. And my decision does not change central govt's opinion.
I wanted to guide the path to the readers by reminding them that, Revolution is never the means for Peaceful ends.
My problem with West is not their language but culture. It is the base of a thought. We can think only in terms of Democracy, Revolutions, bla bla, without visualising the impacts of it. Actions are tightly coupled with selfish needs. I am not complaining only about politicians, common people too.
Definitely either me nor you have any authority to decide whether telangana should be formed or not. But,Could you please tell me the reason why we have waged 200 year protracted and hegemonic struggle???? It is for democracy:Democracy meant right to exercise our franchise, right to rule ourselves, right for our liberty and finally right to freedom of expression. Our freedom struggle leaders wanted us to make an opinion and express it and this why we have choosed democracy.Unlike india, where we have communist governments say, china, people can't even utter their voice.Fortunately or unfortunately we have that freedom to exercise. It is good to franchise our right and make an opinion and express it because that is what what democracy is meant for. Again,it's your call to franchise your right or not.
ReplyDeleteI completely second you with this thought that always revolution is never the means for peaceful ends. Our politicians are just capitalizing people's emotions and they are just pursuing wicked paths for ostentatiously achieving their nefarious deeds.
Regarding west, language is part of culture. truly, to me personally , our culture possess rich heritage, superior status , matured and a progressive one.But definitely this is a subjective concept because, ours (indians) and westerners perspectives and thoughts are different. May be our culture is superior to us but westerners may feel their culture is even more superior. Truly, our culture is a paradox. For instance,we have given exalted status to our women in mythological texts and we have given them the status of goddess. But how do we treat them right from rig vedic period?? We have same sanctified religious writings which tells: she is believed to fickle and fragile. We feel that she is sensuous, a temptress, given to falsehood, folly, greedy, polluter and shows thoughtless action.
Am not saying here that west is not a conservative one like us but definitely not to this extent and pervasive. We are rich in many extant spheres but not in all.
With all due respect, these is just my personal opinion and not to mean to hurt anyone and to be offensive.I feel it is always good to be involved in fruitful and healthy debates........
Culture is not the history my friend. Ok. I think I need to post a new page on it.
DeleteShadow banking system refers to credit intermediary activities outside the purview of regulated banking system.Hedge funds,Credit default swaps(credit risk transfer),Maturity transformation , brokerage activities and non banking financial activities comes under the entities of shadow banking system. People who invests in these systems are not covered under regular traditional deposit schemes and there won't be any insurance for their deposits and hence they are in "shadows".
ReplyDeleteThe issue of shadow banking system came into limelight when US home mortgage crisis happened where securitization chain got triggered. This chain involved highly convoluted structure and there was fire sales of these mortgage backed securities which resulted in drastic reduction of real estate prices in US.As regular banks were also involved in this chain, all the financial and non-financial entities entered into great difficulty.
In india, there is remarkable increse in shadow banking activities which is arising concern. This has to nipped in it's bud otherwise, there would crippling and pervasive effect in our banking structure.
